Manuel Trujillo breaks myths at the 2023 Mass Insurance Summit

The "Mass Insurance Summit” is an event that brought together 44 companies from different sectors such as: banking-insurance, microinsurance, affinity, commercial, among others, which took place on October 24, 2023 in the city of Miami, at the Trump Internacional Hotel. This event is organized by EBM – Executive Business Meetings. Where our executive president of BMI Ecuador, Manuel Trujillo, was invited to present an exhibition titled: “Insurance is NOT useful”, a name that caught the attention of all attendees.

Manuel Trujillo's career

Manuel has extensive experience in the insurance area, having been in the sector for 17 years. Among the most notable companies in his career are: Banco Santander, EXA Colpatria and BBVA Colombia, where he held the position of CEO – president of BBVA Seguros Colombia and since the beginning of 2023 he has worked for BMI Ecuador.

“Insurance is NOT useful”

During his presentation, he addressed the role that the broker plays when marketing products. Insurance advisory agents must have constant training to explain insurance policies to mutual clients; their coverage, benefits and terminology, among other topics. This is in order to resolve any doubts that the consumer may have. Demonstrating the importance of having insurance, proposing the possible scenarios in which it becomes essential to have it and how to use it in the event that one occurs.

Likewise, he spoke about the importance of loyalty, retaining clients and designing medical plans that comply with long-term social responsibility, to guarantee that the contracted service accompanies the client in the event of an accident.

Manuel indicated that Covid-19 left many lessons not only for the client, but also for companies. The pandemic arrived without warning and affected all industrial sectors; especially to insurers, a fact that marked a new perspective on planning and profitability. Manuel mentioned that winning business does not necessarily mean profitability in the world of insurance, given that these new clients could present short-term illnesses that compromise the company's assets.

Concluding his intervention, Manuel mentioned that insurance does work, as long as all those involved work together towards social responsibility.

How can insurance work on its social responsibility?

Supporting its clients, taking care of them at all times, providing them with constant information about health care and the benefits of their health policies.
