On September 5, 2014, Anthony Sierra, President and CEO of BMI, together with the BMI Miami office, did the ALS ice bucket challenge. BMI's parent company matched the amount raised among all employees in the office and they were able to donate $2,670 in total to the cause.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disease of the parts of the nervous system that control voluntary muscle movement. When ALS occurs, the nerve cells that control muscle cells are gradually lost. As those motor neurons are lost, the muscles they control weaken and eventually stop working.
