Know the effect that pollution has on your skin

Pollution levels continue to increase day by day, we can affirm that it accelerates premature aging of the skin and that is why BMI explains to you how this can affect it. Numerous studies confirm that this environmental factor causes oxidative stress, which leads to different visible signs of skin aging:

  • Decreases the skin's antioxidant defenses (vitamins C and E)
  • Increases excess fat or, on the contrary, produces dryness
  • Influences a higher incidence of skin diseases such as dermatitis, psoriasis, rosacea, etc.
  • It favors the increase of expression lines, wrinkles and loss of firmness.

It is important to emphasize that every day we are exposed to various pollution agents, which act together, being together more harmful than each one separately. Of these agents, the ozone found on the earth's surface is one of the most harmful atmospheric pollutants and one of the greatest concern due to its increase in recent years.

Pollution contains free radicals and other aggressors that penetrate to the deepest layers of our skin and cause long-term damage, in addition to darkening skin cells from the inside. On the outside, the damage manifests itself in the form of rashes, acne, eczema, dryness, dark marks and even premature aging.

So what happens to our skin on a deep level?

Over time, the aggressors in the pollution that penetrate our skin accumulate and suffocate our pores, clogging them; the smaller the particle, the more profound its effects, which can affect even the epidermis. To counteract this damage, the skin produces melanin, the main cause of dark marks on the surface of your skin. If the skin cannot shed and renew itself optimally, dead skin cells accumulate on the surface.

Although pollution is an inevitable part of modern life, there is a solution to prevent pollution from damaging our skin: a proper routine to take care of it. This can help eliminate pollutants and restore shine to our skin.

To act against this aggression, it is essential to keep skin care and attention at bay and we give you the following tips:
