Table of Contents:

The International Self-Care Day arises as part of a worldwide campaign conceived as a reminder that makes us reflect on the importance of taking care of oneself in everyday life. This has nothing to do with vanity, but with the fact that we understand that there are activities to be carried out constantly that can help us maintain integral health.

In today's society, where the discomforts caused by emotional instability, the fast pace of life or the limited ability to cope with anxiety, have become an increasing problem, it is relevant to emphasize that self-care is a tool that has a positive impact on mental and physical health.

Beyond any meaning that may be provided, it is worth bearing in mind that there are different models in terms of personal health and self-care.

The International Self-Care Foundation has stipulated a division that encompasses various dimensions, which allow us to understand its importance in detail.

● Cognitive health. It involves everything that has to do with the transmission of information and the ability to remember it. As well as solving problems, concentrating, staying attentive; recognize the environment in which we are, analyze it and make changes in it.
An example: To preserve cognitive health, activities such as reading regularly, playing chess, doing puzzles, or solving crossword puzzles are recommended. All these possibilities serve to exercise the brain and ensure that our learning capacities are always at the top.

● Notion of physical and mental health. The fact of conducting periodic physical and mental studies serves not only to prevent later ills but to generate a level of tranquility and serenity in our being.

An example: A highly recommended lifestyle habit among individuals who want to be health conscious is to have a general medical evaluation once a year. Not only for the fact of providing calm, but to increase the mood of the person knowing that he is completely healthy.

● Hygiene of life. This aspect includes all the life habits that allow us fullness at the body level, such as physical activity, a balanced diet, as well as hygiene and grooming in general.

An example: It is not only about having specific schedules in our lifestyle, but about maintaining a routine with activities that make us feel good, which includes adequate rest, personal presentation, body development, as well as the fact of eat healthy and exercise frequently.

● The abolition of risk. Avoiding behaviors that lead us to face unnecessary obstacles or risks is a fundamental aspect of peace of mind and assimilation of negative emotions.

An example: There is no doubt that many people are cautious, but keeping in mind (without reaching an unhealthy level) that prevention is better than regret, is the best advice. Putting yourself at risk unnecessarily, such as going through dangerous places or being alone on the street late at night, is definitely a bad idea. Exposing yourself to problematic situations depends on each one, but it is a basic knowledge for anyone.

Being able to comply with all these levels of self-care are the best way to find a point of physical and mental balance in the search for human fulfillment.
