The clock marked 8:30 in the morning and the event began at the facilities of the Hermano Miguel Foundation in the city of Quito. Verónica Suárez, director of management and development of the charity institution, welcomed Manuel Trujillo, president of BMI, executives of the insurance company and representatives of the companies sponsoring the BMI Run 4Health race. In his presentation, he explained the importance required by the implementation and operation of the Diabetic Foot clinic, since a condition of this disease is the second cause of amputation, and diabetic people are more likely to have wounds that do not heal.

In 2023, the BMI Run 4Health race in its editions in Quito and Guayaquil had the participation of more than 600 participants and the funds raised have been allocated to the social work of the Hermano Miguel Foundation and the Ser Feliz Foundation.

“There is hope when an organization like BMI and its sponsors, who have helped us with this important fund to equip this Diabetic Foot clinic, join a task like ours.” Those were the emotional words of María Eugenia Paredes, executive director of the Hermano Miguel Foundation, upon formally receiving the financial contribution from the president of BMI Ecuador.

Then Manuel Trujillo, President of BMI Ecuador, stated “Count on us for 2024, we will continue to support not only in economic terms but also the entire team of professionals we have at BMI, so that the responsibility we have with Ecuadorian society becomes greater every day.”

Immediately afterwards, Pablo Vallejo, triathlete and beneficiary of the Hermano Miguel Foundation, stated: ¨For me the FHM has contributed to the continuous improvement in my life. Once the amputation of my leg was performed, I have received the guide to understand what the new conditions will be to lead an optimal quality of life. Thanks to the contribution of BMI, the Diabetic Foot clinic will be a reality that will help many people.”

At the end, a tour of the facilities was carried out in which the actions that will be implemented for the next inauguration of the FHM Diabetic Foot clinic were carried out, which will have a multidisciplinary medical team: Diabetologist, Vascular Specialist, Surgeon, Podiatrist, Orthopedist /Physiotherapist, Endocrinologist, Psychologist, Dermatologist, and Nutritionist.
