"Painting Santa Catarina Palopó", is a project that seeks to articulate efforts between associations, the municipal government and companies to achieve the realization of a work of art with a social impact on a monumental scale in the population of Santa Catarina. It is guided by the renowned Dutch artists, Jeroen Koolhas and Andreas Urhan, known as “Haas & Hahn”, who have carried out similar projects in Brazil, Chile, Haiti, Curaçao and the United States, with whom they have drawn the attention of the most important press media in the world.
The essence of this type of project is based on the active participation of the community where its inhabitants decide how the façade of the community will be, doing most of the work with the support and offer of volunteers. It is about building a sense of belonging and community pride that fosters sustainable development, the generation of new opportunities and new perspectives for the entire community. These projects not only improve the aesthetics of the environment but also create a social and visual dialogue with their surroundings.
BMI Seguros de Guatemala, has joined the sponsors of this important project unique in the country, which has the genuine collaboration of several actors that promote the development of the community through an education based on art, which will impact life of more than 700 families.
“Pintando Santa Catarina” seeks to transform the community and improve its quality of life through painting and colors. Santa Catarina Palopó will become an example to follow for other communities and can have a great multiplier effect.
